We all have powerful Life Themes:
The metaphors of thunder, of rain, and of powerful lightning have served as some of my life themes for a very long time.
When I look over my poetry from decades past, there are life themes that run deep. These are the roads of my journey. These are the pathways that I walk upon, grow upon, and then, eventually I fly. You have your own life themes. Do you know what some of them are?
My life themes show up in my writing quite often. They are old friends, sometimes enemies, but always guides. They are a vital part of my being. They speak to me. I am still learning from the poem, “Vibration of Distant Thunders”, that I wrote over ten years ago.
In the process of becoming. I continue to melt into rain. This is my ongoing expression of, “being released to meet the green.” Perhaps this is why I have always loved the rain…. Please enjoy this audio clip of a poem I wrote and I accompany myself playing the moyo drum.
I Have Always Loved The Rain
This piece speaks about rain, my constant life theme.
As a desert dweller, the rain, blessed rain, is always welcome in my life. And sometimes in the gift of a storm, the vibration of forgotten thunders fills my being with wisdom on this ongoing path.
The image and poem are from my One-of-A-Kind book, Baptism of Tears. The audio track is from my cd, Eclectic Annie, which will be available in early 2019.

This music accompaniment is perfect for this metaphor. Wondering about my life theme now—
I have found that looking at our life themes is fascinating. As you write, you may notice that certain aspects re-occur. This is where writing with our authentic voice is a powerful and empowering tool… the self understanding that comes with looking at these themes (and mine often show up in the metaphor!) allows us to move with more empathy, courage and wisdom. Thank you for enjoying the the music!
Thank you for sharing this poem and your insights, Annie, as it was first posted long before I found you. I love that you see your life themes as “old friends, sometimes enemies, but always guides.”
Going to sit with that awhile today and then do some journaling. Love across the miles, P
